GENERAL INFORMATION

Louisiana Technical College is committed to administering the financial aid programs in a manner that prevents discrimination on the basis of age, sex, handicap, creed, race, color, marital status or national origin. The Office of Student Financial Assistance provides confidentiality of all student financial assistance records. Policies published may be modified to comply with current regulations.

SOURCES OF FINANCIAL AID

Pell Grant (Apply Online)
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now on the Internet and may reduce your wait period by one-half!!  Interested parties are encouraged to click the hyperlink above to open a separate "browser window", and begin filling the application for Federal  Financial Assistance Online.
The Pell Grant is a federal aid program designed to provide financial assistance to those who need to attend post-high school educational institutions. Basic grants may be combined with other forms of financial aid in order to meet the full cost of education. All financial aid you receive will be coordinated so as not to receive an over award. The amount of your basic grant is determined on the basis of your own and/or your parents' family financial resources. Payment of the Pell Grant is based on the student's completion rate and satisfactory progress in the program in which he/she is enrolled. WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT
One-Stop Job Centers provide access to various employment-related programs and agencies whose services are linked through local/state partnerships. Created under the new Workforce Investment Act (WIA), each One-Stop Job Center has a staffed resource area that provides job seekers with access to information that includes job listings, career assessment, training providers, and demand occupation information both in the local area and other areas in which the applicant may be seeking employment. For persons who cannot find a job with assistance from Job Center staff, eligible applicants may receive assistance accessing skill training for jobs in demand and for which they possess the required prerequisites. TITLE III/DISLOCATED WORKER
To qualify for this program you must have been employed in a full-time position (32+ hours a week or more) for at least six months within the last five years, and currently unemployed. This program is not based on financial need. Funding is for short-term training or short-term retraining. Applicants' qualifications will be verified with the Louisiana Unemployment Office. If eligible, applicants must apply for a Pell Grant. All financial aid will be coordinated with other financial aid received from other agencies. Interested persons may pick up an application at your local Louisiana Technical College Campus.
PROJECT FIND WORK
Project Find Work is a program under the Aid to Families with Dependent Children grant which provides child care, transportation assistance, and various other benefits designed to assist AFDC recipients to gain the work skills necessary to become self-supporting. Any individual who is currently included in the payment on an AFDC case meets eligibility for Project Find Work assistance. Any student who wants information about the program should contact her AFDC case worker.
STUDENT LOANS
Louisiana Technical College, no longer participates in the Guaranteed Student Loan (Stafford Loans) Program. To apply for a deferment on a prior Guaranteed Student Loan (Stafford Loan), obtain a deferment form from your lender and bring it to the Financial Aid Office at the individual campus.
TANF

Leveraging Education Assistance Partnership (LEAP)
LEAP awards are offered by the State of Technical College students, as funds are available.  Recipients must be PELL eligible and must meet grade requirements.  The Financial Aid Officer and The student Personnel Services Officer handle applications and awards.  The LEAP award is not a loan.
Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS)
The TOPS program is a comprehensive program of state scholarships and one of the most innovative and progressive student assistance programs in the nation.  The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance determines eligibility.  For additional information, contact your high school counselor or the Financial Aid Officer at your technical College. Trade Adjustment Act (T.A.A.)
This program assists individuals who have lost jobs due to increased imports.  The cost of tuition, books, and supplies are covered under this program.  Information and assistance for applying for this program may be secured through the Student Personnel Services Officer or the Financial Aid Officer.
Louisiana Rehabilitation Services
The State Division of the Louisiana Rehabilitation Services provided financial assistance to a person who have a physical, emotional, learning or mental disability. To establish eligibility the applicant should contact a counselor at the agency four to six months prior to entering the college.  Tuition, books, supplies, transportation, and meals may be paid, depending on the needs of the individual.
National Guard Tuition Exemption
Eligible recipients will be exempt from tuition and fees at the technical college.  For additional information contact the Student Personnel Services Officer or Financial Aid Officer.
Social Security
Dependent children of those disabled or deceased workers covered by Social Security may be eligible to receive benefits while attending school as full-time students.  Students should contact the local Social Security Office for determination of eligibility.
